about Batteries.CC
For most people, the battery is nothing but just… well… a battery. This important invention has not earned enough of man’s attention and is often even taken for granted. We most of the time forget that this small, lowly device has helped us save lives, improve our livelihood, keep people informed and entertained, and many other important contributions throughout mankind’s modern history. It has not failed us in making our lives easier and more comfortable. On the other hand, we also tend to neglect its existence and that improper use or disposal can cause harm and danger, especially to our health and our environment.
The people behind Batteries Consumer Centre, or simply Batteries.CC, realise the need for a comprehensive online resource centre that will provide useful articles, helpful tips, and valuable information about the battery. This website aims to fill the long-existing void on practical battery knowledge that is easily accessible and always available. It is Battery.CC’s aim to educate and help people get the most out of their dependable battery.

the origins of the battery cell
Most people enter an online battery wholesaler site to look for Duracell or Procell batteries in the size they need and then order them. The vendor quickly sends out the order, you use them and then recycle them, or at least hopefully you recycle them. However, few people stop to think how we ended up with such a wonderful and useful invention.

The discovery in Iraq in the 1930s of an ancient copper container with an iron rod inside it suggests that over 2,000 years ago there was a Middle East equivalent of Duracell already doing business. As no contemporary mp3 players were dug up at the site it is commonly believed that the “batteries” they constructed were used to fuse gold elements onto silver objects, not a use which it is recommended that you give to your new AA alkaline batteries.
Modern batteries as we know and use them started life in the last 18th century. You may not be familiar with scientists such as Luigi Galvani and Alessandra Cont di Volta but I am sure that you can work out a couple of power related terms which they gave their names to. Galvani made a breakthrough when he realised that a dead frog twitched its leg when it touched two distinct types of metal. Volta put together a structure formed of copper and zinc with a salt solution. Their experiments were still a long way from the AAA Procell batteries sold online but the principles were now falling into place.
The combination of lead and sulphuric acid came later. The batteries were getting more efficient all the time, but were still big, cumbersome and dangerous. At the end of the 19th century the inventions picked up pace and batteries began to be produced on an industrial scale. Having said that, at the beginning the potential for domestic use was not a consideration and the early power cells were instead designed to feed electricity supplies to whole cities. The idea of a Duracell battery big enough to light up Northampton might now seem amusing but someone had to invent domestic appliances which used batteries before making batteries for domestic consumption.
The next period of the battery story saw a large number of inventors come up with a wide range of types of battery, some of which led directly to the batteries we use now and some which got no further than interesting experiments.
Then came wholesale battery operators and the internet. Finally the idea of selling top quality batteries at wholesale prices and with a cheap, fast and efficient delivery service was born. It has been a long road from the Middle Eastern copper pots to wholesalers selling Procell on the internet but we are here to help you understand the whole story of batteries.
